Agathis Board

The standard in affordable beauty. Pieces of permanently joined, 2 1/8 inch thick Agathis (杉木) wood (placed side-by-side) make this a good-looking and affordable board that will stand up to a lifetime of enjoyment. Agathis has a pleasing dark grain and coloring on the sides, and a light color wash finish on top provides a perfect easy-on-the-eyes background conducive to serious Go-playing. The maker selects two, three, or four pieces of Agathis for grain matching and a seamless playing surface. These are the same boards used in the pro study room at the Korean Go Academy, and by the top competitors in the 1997 U.S. Open.

The dimensions of the Agathis table board are approximately 16 1/2" by 17 3/4", 2 1/8" inch thick. The squares of the grid are roughly 7/8" by 15/16", sized for standard Go stone diameters of 20-22mm. They are originally based on Asian measurements which don't translate exactly to inches, hence the approximations.
